Thames Barges at Pin Mill (2016)Watercolour by Noel Sawyer

This 'line and wash' painting was the first of the many I have made of this beautiful hamlet in Suffolk. Pin Mill is located on the south shore of the River Orwell where it is wide and shallow. We first visited on a lovely summers day and we sat on a bench while I made a rough sketch in pencil before I built the detail with the pen then added some colour. We then enjoyed lunch in the pub before walking upstream along the footpath through the fields.

Windsor & Newton artist quality watercolours; Cobolt Blue, Light Red, Raw Sienna with Pin waterproof pen on handmade Saunders Waterford 200lb paper.
