We frequently visit 'The Promenade' in Maldon and on this beautiful summers day we sat and watched this Thames Barge returning to its mooring in front of St Mary's church. There are usually half-dozen Thames Barges permanently moored there and several of them provide cruises down the River Blackwater before returning on the incoming tide. As an adolescent Boy Scout I was fortunate to attend a weekend cruise on the barge Thalatta and spent the night on-board sleeping in a hammock. Thalatta still provides such cruises today.
The barge illustrated is heading towards the shore just before it swings to starboard and along the channel towards it's mooring.
Windsor & Newton artist quality watercolours; Cobolt Blue, Light Red, Raw Sienna and Cerulean on Bockingford 200lb watercolour paper.
