Original artwork description
A sultry evening, a time of sweat and humidity, of night as thick as treacle, redolent of orange blossom, pizza dough and the tantalising passing clouds of expensive perfume. A dusk of pink sky, the magic punctuated by the incessant sounds of the city, scooters and buses, car horns and Mizrachi music from passing radios. I find the bakery, hot and neon-lit, and it transports me to a time long ago, memories of taste and texture and interiors that once looked like this. Rows of oily filled pastries tempt me, stuffed with meat and potato, dates and nuts and honey. This work is a wonderful gift, a great souvenir of Israel.
