When creating this painting, I aimed to capture the dance between sunlight and flowing water on the ancient fountain. The sculptures radiate power and dignity, while the streaming water breathes life into the stone. I was fascinated by the play of light—sunlight gliding over the surfaces, weaving a rhythm of contrast like a symphony. I wanted the viewer to feel the warmth and vibrancy of a Roman afternoon, where history and the present merge within the shimmering water.
I employed bold, textured brushstrokes to emphasize the tactile quality of the stone and the contrast of light and shadow. The background architecture was painted with looser strokes to keep focus on the fountain’s sculptures. By balancing warm ochres with cool blues and greens, I created visual tension and harmony, inviting the viewer to almost hear the murmur of water and the whispers of the city.
