Artwork description
Sweet Queen, 2016
Fine art print on Hahnemühle paper with holographic elements
Artist Proof (AP) — Private Collection
“Sweet Queen” (2016) is a recontextualization of the iconic photographic portrait of Queen Elizabeth II originally captured by Dorothy Wilding.
In this work, the artist intervenes directly on a symbol of institutional permanence, introducing tattoo marks on the Queen’s neck — a gesture that disrupts the visual language of royalty and repositions it within a contemporary cultural framework.
By merging a historically codified image with elements associated with subculture, identity, and bodily inscription, the work creates a friction between authority and individuality, tradition and transformation.
The Queen — an emblem of continuity, decorum, and control — is reimagined as a surface of intervention, where permanence is challenged and re-signified.
Printed on Hahnemühle paper, the artwork benefits from museum-grade material quality, enhancing tonal depth and surface presence. Holograms applied to both the certificate of authenticity and the verso of the print guarantee its authenticity and traceability, reinforcing its status as a collectible object.
This piece is an Artist Proof (AP), a category traditionally reserved for the artist and highly sought after by collectors due to its rarity and its proximity to the original creative act.
A small dot is present on the surface of the print. This minor imperfection does not affect the overall visual impact of the work, but rather contributes to its uniqueness as a physical, singular artifact.
Through a minimal yet radical intervention, “Sweet Queen” questions the stability of cultural icons and reflects on the mutable nature of image, power, and identity in the contemporary age.
Printed on Klein Imaging Smooth Rag 300GSM archival paper.
Digitally signed, numbered, and delivered with a certificate of authenticity.
