Susanna and the Elders (2023) Original Pastel Drawing by Rumen Sazdov

The inspiration for this drawing was a well-known biblical story from the Old Testament Book of Daniel. The story tells of Susanna bathing, who is secretly observed by two old judges and then blackmailed because they want her to sexually surrender to them, otherwise they will accuse her of adultery. She refuses and is accused of adultery with an unknown young man. Susanna is sentenced to death, but on the way to execution, the archangel Daniel intervenes and requests a new trial where he proves Susanna's innocence and the conspiracy of the judges, who are subsequently executed. When creating this work, I wanted to capture pure emotional energy and the central motif is a female silhouette radiating light, which symbolizes life force and strong hope for justice.
