ABOUT THE ART WORK
The painting captures the majestic moment of sunset, when the sky transforms into a dramatic scene of color and light. Enormous clouds, heavy and velvety, hang over the horizon, as if slowly drifting in the wake of the fading day. Their edges are illuminated by a fiery glow—gold, crimson, amber—so that they seem to smolder from within. The sun, half hidden behind the cloud masses, casts long rays that pierce the sky in slanted lines. Its disk is still brightly exposed, but already surrounded by a halo of warm, diffused light that colors the water in iridescent bronze and orange glass. In the foreground, on the gently trembling surface, several sailboats rest. Their silhouettes are crisp and dark, emphasized by the contrast with the sparkling sunset sky. The sails, lightly filled by the wind, appear almost sculptural—austere yet majestic. The lines of the hulls are reflected in the water in long, slightly blurred strokes, creating the effect of a calm drift. The artist conveys the play of light with particular subtlety: golden highlights on the sails, fiery reflections on the waves, soft shadows spreading across the surface of the sea.
