Abstracted impressionist landscape.
Living close to Camber Sands in East Sussex, and visiting regularly, I have lots of ideas about translation. This painting is all about the myriad of soft colour, shifting shades and moving light that even the stillest landscape can have.
Building up many layers of colour, using top quality Golden paints and spattering, using brushes, rags and palette knives to create a rich and textured surface with tonal depth is my aim. My canvas is worked both on the ground and on an easel - this allows me to add layers of watercolor like painting without it all dripping to the bottom the canvas! When on the easel in the last stages, I am able to stand back and look, I spend more time looking than working at this stage and I try to asses balance, colour and overall feel.
This 75x100cm canvas is unframed. It has white painted edges and is strung with picture cord ready to hang.
