"A Stop"
This relatively large-scale painting is painted in oils on primed canvas. It depicts a young woman sitting on a bench accompanied by a cat, set against a background featuring a fragment of Kaunas city. This piece was created specifically for the series "Presents of the City" (Lithuanian: „Miesto būvimas“), which was exhibited in various galleries across Lithuania between 2020 and 2023.
In the composition, the muse and the cat are positioned at the edges, gazing directly at the viewer, leaving an open space between them. Looking at the work, several questions may arise: What is happening here? Are these characters waiting for something? If so, for what? Or perhaps they are inviting you to join them, to sit down and become part of the whole?
Personally, I believe this painting is about choice. I painted it during a stage of my life filled with reflection and uncertainty, a time when I had to make one life-altering decision or another.
Technical Details and Style
The painting was created by thinning oil paints with turpentine and varnish, which gives the final surface a subtle gloss. The entire piece is executed in clear, distinct color planes, avoiding excessive detail to maintain a modern and contemporary aesthetic. Visible brushstrokes are intentionally left to make the painting feel "alive" and authentic.
The work features a variety of color field sizes and varying paint thicknesses—ranging from thin glazes (glazing) to thick, textured layers (impasto). When the piece is lit, these hues harmonize and resonate, creating a distinct atmosphere.
Shipping Information
Please note that this is a substantial exhibition-sized piece that requires a large room or hall. To keep shipping costs manageable, the painting will not be shipped on its stretcher bars. Instead, it will be safely rolled onto a cardboard tube, protected by soft foam, and packed in a hard cardboard box.
Note: Upon delivery, you will need to take the canvas to a local framing shop to have it professionally re-stretched onto a wooden frame.
Please note,
Import duties and taxes may be applied to your order upon arrival in your country. These charges are beyond our control and vary by location. You are responsible for covering any such fees. For accurate information, please consult your local customs authority before placing an order.
