Original artwork description
Stolen Time 173 - the River of Heaven was painted in late 2022, part of my ongoing Stolen Time series which I began in the quiet of the first Covid lockdown in the UK in 2020.
This is a night painting, with a sense of the light shining out of the darkness. This poem brings to mind these lines from the poem 'The Turning Year' by Su Tong Po:
'Silently the River of Heaven turns in the Jade Vault.
If tonight I do not enjoy life to the full
Next month, next year, who knows where I will be?'
