Original artwork description
Stars and Tree Rings
This painting can be purchased READY TO HANG shipped to the UK only, for shipping outside the UK it is rolled in a tube.
The work is inspired by my Father who was a Paleobotanist, in the 1970's to 80's he collected samples of fossil wood, he sliced these pieces of rock with a paper disc cutter, under the microscope he measured the tree rings, this told a story about the hot and cold years depending on the width of the tree rings within the sample. Scientists during this period were in conversation around the world piecing together this date on tree rings, the samples were carbon dated and I remember that in the early days my Father worked virtually without access to a computer, PC's came in 1981.
The information the scientists brought together gave our first glimpse of early climate change, and now I realise that when we went on holiday as children we went to places where fossil wood could be found, other families were sitting on the beach having picnics and we were hitting the cliff face with a hammer!
