Original artwork description
Home of the artist, St Johns is an c18 village which grew up round the newly cut canal, which would reach Basingstoke but fall far short of Southampton, as w as originally intended. The village took its name from the church, built in 1889 by the rector of Old Woking, as a chapel of ease for the people of canalside, the old name.
