This watercolor painting captures a spring scene in Sagano, Kyoto, featuring people in traditional Japanese attire (kimono) walking along a historic street.
I chose a vertical composition to emphasize the depth of the pathway enclosed by traditional tiled and earthen walls. In the background, I painted the mountain covered with blooming cherry blossoms using soft pink and white tones, contrasting it with the fresh green of the trees. The bright spring sunlight creates distinct shadows on the ground, and I also depicted the subtle detail of cherry blossom petals falling through the air. My main focus was to record the structural elements of the street, including the utility poles, alongside the seasonal figures exactly as I observed them.
