Spring is coming (2025)Oil painting by Tomas Stanaitis

380 x 130 x 3cm (unframed)

£7,631.6

"Spring is coming" or “Signs of Spring” is an oil painting on primed canvas created in 2025. The work consists of four separate canvases, each measuring 95 × 130 cm, with a total overall dimension of 380 × 130 cm. Personally signed on the front and the back and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, ensuring the uniqueness and origin of this piece. As a whole, it is a large, wide-format painting distinguished by its exhibition-scale proportions. This is a unique artwork that would appear authentic and striking in a modern interior.

Technical Details and Idea

The painting depicts a fragment of a clear-cut forest in springtime. The work strongly reflects my painting style. It is executed in a stylized and generalized manner, dominated by clear blocks of color and expressive brushstrokes, creating a composition that is both contrasting and harmonious. The surface alternates between thick, impasto paint layers and transparent, glazed ones.
The piece was painted on four separate canvases, each representing a different day, time, and personal viewpoint. This approach and idea were inspired by my exploration of David Hockney’s work. I chose to depict a scene from the local environment—a deforested area near the Salupiai settlement—specifically in spring, because during this season the contrasting greenery emerges against the violet-red background that has remained static since autumn. The abundance of grass and branch details encourages the search for stylized and generalized solutions in painting. An interesting aspect of the work is that although no human figure is depicted, the entire scene is a reflection of human activity.
Although the artwork is intended to be exhibited as a unified, continuous field of vision, it can also be displayed in various configurations—for example, as three parts, two parts, or even as four separate individual works.

Shipping Information

To keep shipping costs manageable, the artwork will be removed from its stretchers and rolled onto a transport tube, wrapped in protective soft foam, and packed in durable plastic or cardboard packaging.

Note: Upon receiving the painting, it will be necessary to contact a framing service to have the canvases re-stretched onto stretchers.
