Original Acrylic on Canvas (Unstretched) – Ships Rolled in a Protective Tube

“Spirit Reimagined II” is not simply a painting—it is a passage between heritage and awakening. Rooted in Afrocentric tradition yet re-envisioned through the language of modern abstraction and pop art, this elongated canvas transforms the timeless African mask into a symbol of both power and vulnerability.

Alive with bold colour and intentional geometry, the work invites the viewer to question the masks we wear each day—those of emotion, identity, and survival—and the deeper truths that lie beneath.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT/ INSPIRATION

For generations, masks were vessels of story and spirit, keepers of ancestral memory. Spirit Reimagined honours this sacred role while holding up a mirror to our present. In today’s world, masks are crafted not of wood but of persona, performance, and appearance.

This piece is both homage and reminder: though masks may captivate, only authenticity reveals true strength. The greatest identity we can embody is our own.
