Original artwork description
Through this painting, I wanted to capture the raw strength and resilience of the wild. Confronted by biting wind and swirling snow, the bison’s gaze remains calm and determined—a symbol of endurance and dignity. I used bold, textured brushstrokes to bring out the tactile quality of its fur and contrasted cool and warm tones to evoke the harsh yet life-filled cold. The glimmer of snowflakes in the light adds a quiet but powerful energy to the composition.
I employed impasto and palette knife techniques to enhance the three-dimensional feel of the fur and snow. The background was created using both wet and dry brushwork to suggest icy wind movement, emphasizing the contrast with the bison. By balancing light and color, I directed attention to its eyes—stern yet soulful, embodying the spirit of survival.
