Original artwork description
Acrylic on Paper | Framed 40 × 30 cm | Original Painting
Southeasterly 4 to 6 takes its title from the shipping forecast, where direction and strength are recorded with calm precision. Horizontal bands of colour move through the composition, shifting from pale sky blues into deeper ocean tones, anchored by warmer ochres and earth colours below. The transitions are measured and steady, suggesting changing conditions without drama.
The painting balances openness and structure, with broad areas of colour softened by subtle tonal variation and surface marks. References to horizon, sea, and land remain understated, allowing the work to sit comfortably between abstraction and atmosphere.
The clear horizontal rhythm gives the painting a calm, stabilising presence. Its balanced palette and open composition make it easy to live with, bringing a sense of space and quiet structure that settles naturally into a room and continues to reward longer looking.
