Artwork description:

Undulating waves, receding into the distant horizon bring a sense of serenity.

Deep blue cyan, oil based etching ink, fading gently towards the background, and very a light blue sky form the basis of this etching. A second etching plate was made with individually drawn lines to create the waves, and this was printed on top of the blue. Thus this is quite a complicated etching to create, and requires two plates printed, one on top of the other, passed individually through the printing press.

This etching is created using two steel etching plates, sanded meticulously to a shiney finish before working upon each to create the design. The base 'blue' plate has been dipped in acid using a method called 'creeping bite'. The second 'white' plate has individually drawn lines to create the waves, and was then bathed in acid to create the 'etch'.
The professional etching ink is smeared onto each the plate and gently wiped, with ink remaining in the etched 'grooves' created by the acid. The image is created by placing the inked plate on the bed of an etching press, with a sheet of damp, cotton 'Somerset' heavy weight, white paper on top. The press is then hand 'wound', pressing the plate and paper together, transferring the image onto the paper.

This artwork is part of an edition of only 25 prints.
As each print is created by hand, there is a slight variation between each artwork, and therefore each print is totally unique.

This etching is being sold unframed, but should you wish to purchase a framed artwork (as photographed), please use the red 'Contact Me' button and this can be arranged.
