Somnium IV is built from softness, omission and breath. The face tilts into light, eyes closed, its contours appearing only where shadow or warm earth tones require them; elsewhere the figure gives way to the paper. Unlike the darker intensity of the earlier works in the Somnium series, this portrait feels close to surrender — not defeat, but the quiet release of control. The image holds the fleeting interval when the self becomes porous and the outside world recedes.
