When creating this piece, I envisioned freedom at the edge of a storm. Standing before the cliffs, I observed the moment when waves crash against the rocks — a raw power that contrasts sharply with birds darting through the storm. I wanted to capture perseverance and hope amidst turbulence. The birds represent courage, and the raging sea symbolizes life’s trials.

I used heavy brushstrokes to emphasize the texture of the rocks, layering the translucent, dynamic waves with wet-on-wet techniques. The sky is rendered in cold gray tones to evoke tension, while the birds are painted with swift, vigorous strokes to enhance motion and energy. The interplay of light and shadow brings the scene to life — as if you can hear the roar of the ocean and the cry of the gulls.
