Auvergne landscape, France.
From my window, I contemplate the familiar silhouette of the Mount Mézenc, a constant call to leave the studio for the trail. In every season, I return to its heights to confront its immensity and to feel its harshness under my feet.
This painting is an invitation to follow this path, through the grandiose solitude of the snow-covered Mézenc massif. Late afternoon in winter is a fleeting moment. The shadows lengthen visibly, and the colors change minute by minute before the mountain slips entirely into the cold of the night. There is a certain urgency and a poignant beauty in this fading light, a form of gentle melancholy.
The white finish of the sides of the canvas allows, if you wish, a hanging without a frame.
This painting is painted with professional grade oil colors on a primed canvas. I prepare myself my canvases to create a texture specific to my painting needs and to insure them maximum longevity.
