Artwork description:

I’ve always loved blue and white. It doesn’t matter what year, what age, where you are. Blue and white has a beauty. It makes you dream.
Ralph Lauren

I love Delft Blue. It is traditional and contemporary and has been developed into many shades and in many different styles over centuries.
In my search for a completely new approach I got the idea of making blue clay with the help of blue pigment and combining it with white stoneware clay on the potter’s wheel. This small vase is one of the unique results.
After being thrown on the potter’s wheel the vase is covered by a layer of greyish slip and still looks like nothing. However, when it is leather hard and the outer layer is trimmed off with a special tool on the potter’s wheel, the beautiful pattern of the combination of the two different clays appears on the surface. It is always a surprise, because every piece comes out differently, no one looks like the other.
After drying the vase is bisc-fired at 980 degrees Celsius, then glazed with a transparent glaze and fired again at 1240 degrees. It is only then that the vase finally reveals its pure white and deep blue color.
All my glazes are self-prepared by my own recipes. Because all of my items are hand-made and unique you will never find another one which is exactly like yours. And best of all: they are dishwasher-proof:)!
