Sculpture by Alan Harris, contemporary artist
Material: metal, wood, resin, glass, vintage objects, gold, silver
Dimensions43.18 x 25.4 x 17.78 cm
This piece explores the combination of forces that maintains the balance of the universe—a delicate balance. Clouds and water vapor absorb significant amounts of outgoing thermal (heat) radiation generated by the Earth's surface. Due to their intricate interplay with energy, atmospheric water has a tremendous potential to impact the Earth's climate and temperature. Each part of the sculpture represents this process, with the central piece depicting the Earth surrounded by the elements that sustain this balance.
Harris's artistic philosophy revolves around the concept of transformation, as he utilizes broken or discarded objects to breathe new life into them. His method reverberates with the principles of Kintsukuroi, an ancient Japanese art form that not only repairs but also enhances the beauty of the initial damage through golden highlights. This technique emphasizes the idea of celebrating imperfections while preserving the stories embedded within each piece.
"With a deep reverence for the past and a commitment to figurative artistry, my work reflects a desire to honor the journey of these objects while inviting viewers to engage with their new life. Each sculpture serves as a testament to resilience and the transformative power of art, encouraging contemplation on both personal and collective narratives"
