Ski Season is Open is a watercolor painting inspired by the energy and atmosphere of winter skiing. The composition shows a group of skiers moving down the slope, each captured in a simple yet expressive gesture. Their colorful jackets and numbered shirts create a lively contrast against the quiet white space of the snow.

I was interested in capturing the feeling of movement rather than precise detail. The skiers overlap and intersect, forming dynamic lines that guide the viewer’s eye across the slope. Small red flags suggest a slalom course and add rhythm to the scene.

The minimal background allows the figures and their shadows to define the landscape, creating a sense of open space and fresh winter air. The loose watercolor technique reflects the spontaneity of skiing itself — fast, fluid, and full of motion.

This work celebrates the beginning of the ski season and the excitement that comes with returning to the mountains.
