Original artwork description:

When creating this painting, I chose a near frontal perspective to portray the bison, placing it against a subdued and restrained background. Rather than emphasizing its surroundings, I wanted the viewer to confront the spirit of the animal itself—silent, resilient, and undeniably powerful. The bison’s gaze is calm rather than aggressive, carrying a sense of dignity shaped by time and endurance. Through this restrained composition, I aim to let strength emerge quietly, without force.
I used a combination of layered brushstrokes and scraped textures to build the dense fur of the bison, reinforcing its mass and weight through deep, layered tones. Subtle highlights with cool and warm contrasts were applied to the horns and facial features, allowing the form to emerge from a restrained atmosphere. The background was treated with dry brushing and soft wiping techniques to minimize spatial distraction and draw full focus to the animal’s inner strength.

Materials used:

Acrylic
