In this painting, I chose an almost frontal viewpoint to confront the viewer directly with the bison’s presence. Rather than depicting aggression, I focused on its calm strength and quiet dignity within the storm. The cool, turbulent background contrasts with the warm, dense fur, allowing the subject to emerge with commanding clarity. I built the surface through layered, directional brushstrokes to create volume and texture, alternating cool and warm tones to enhance realism. By preserving visible brush marks in the highlights, I aimed to keep the painting alive, raw, and breathing with energy.
