Original artwork description:

Sometimes the most unlikely spots seem beautiful. This is a scene from Newcastle upon Tyne which I used to walk by daily. Somehow, on this particular day the blue sky (which can be seen at the top left corner) complemented the colour of the bricks beautifully. By keeping just a glint of this blue the red took on such a warmth that I have tried to capture. This is a painting I sometimes get lost in, somehow comforted by a scene which should perhaps not be so comforting. With nods to Vermeer's 'The Little Street' this painting captures everything I love about the practice, contrast, a subtle complement of colours and the opportunity to see something quite normal differently once again.
