She (2024) Original Pastel Drawing by Mariia Anshakova

23 x 28 x 0.2cm (unframed)

£371.86

In 2019, I started working on a series of lyrical portraits. For me, a character is a figure that embodies beauty and grace, as if magnetically attracting the attention of others, making them forget about everything else and immerse themselves in its greatness.

The main idea of the series is focused on the theme of beauty standards and their influence on the perception of human individuality and emotions. Through lyrical heroes, I aim to draw the viewers’ attention to how these standards can shape the perception of beauty and how each character is unique in their beauty. My goal is to show that true beauty is manifested not in conformity to standards, but in the individuality and emotional depth of each person.

All works are made in oil pastel technique on abrasive paper. I chose construction store paper because I liked the format and texture. Each painting has a title that tells a little about the character. It is usually related to activities, characteristics, categories and other aspects.
