Original artwork description
"Shapes of Wonder 02" is a visual exploration of the whimsical and boundless imagination of a child, inspired by the playful spontaneity of drawing a fish underwater. The painting reflects how children perceive their environment—not merely as a reflection of reality but as a dreamlike realm where everyday objects transform into magical worlds. In this piece, the shape of a fish becomes an abstract form, blending fluidly with the landscape of an underwater fantasy—where colors, shapes, and patterns swim freely, unburdened by rules or logic.
The vibrant palette—pinks, greens, oranges, and blues—creates a kaleidoscopic landscape that hints at a fairy-tale underwater world. The childlike joy in mark-making is evident in the irregular patches and layers of color, each suggesting fragments of imagined things: coral reefs, playful sea creatures, hidden treasures, and magical underwater forests. These elements are left abstract to capture the free-flowing nature of a child’s mind, where shapes don’t conform to reality but morph into whatever the heart desires.
The gray background adds contrast, evoking a dream-like suspension, as if this fantastical world is floating just beneath the surface of everyday life. Through this painting, I aim to immerse the viewer in a playful and enchanting space—one that celebrates the unstructured joy of child art and the beauty of seeing the world with wonder, where even a fish underwater becomes an entire universe of possibilities.
