Original artwork description
"Shallow Water" is a painting inspired by the feeling water gives me when I can’t see through it. I can’t know how deep it is and can only imagine the infinite life, where sun never shines, where everything is so alive and rotting at the same time, where facts that made sense on the ground, doesn’t make sense anymore underwater. The substances change, the weight disappears, even the law of gravity vanishes. The painting was highly influenced by three movies - “Night Tide” by Curtis Harrington (1961), “L’Hippocampe” by Jean Painlevé (1934) and “The Lighthouse” by Robert Eggers (2019). These three completely different movies have the feeling of an underwater mystery in common, where reality and imagination is separated by a very blurred line, and one can never be sure if the eyes and body senses are really telling the truth
