This painting was painted at a breathtaking spot in Marina Roseto Capo Spulico, Italy, where the medieval Castello Federiciano rises dramatically on the shoreline. The beach was utterly deserted, giving the feeling of being on a remote island. Only the rhythmic sound of waves and the calls of seabirds filled the air, creating an atmosphere of serene isolation.
At first, I painted the shimmering sea and the castle surrounded by circling birds, but the scene felt incomplete. Seeking to infuse it with a sense of mystery, I imagined how this place might have looked in the days of pirates and seafaring legends. I added an old, weathered boat with a lone raven perched upon it — a silent sentinel from another era. The result is a composition that blends realism with a whisper of fantasy, inviting the viewer to step into a moment suspended between past and present.
