Scales explores the tension between containment and growth, domesticity and the natural world. A patterned backdrop reminiscent of wallpaper overlays a dense arrangement of leaves, pushing and pulling against a transparent Pyrex measuring jug. Inside the jug, a small fish floats - a living creature reduced to a unit of measurement. The painting plays with depth and layering, blurring boundaries between interior and exterior spaces. This piece continues my interest in how living beings are domesticated, catalogued, and displayed, reflecting both beauty and quiet unease.
