The Basilica Santa Maria della Salute
Built in thanks for the relief and cessation of the Black Death that had taken 1/3 of the venice population
Building [like all Venice] on deep timber piles and driven into the mud.
The estimation of the number of piles on the Salute area is 1 million
Construction started in 1631 and was complete in 1681.
Sir Christopher Wren visited the site at the time he was designing St Pauls London and his design follows some of the ingenuity of Salute [the double skin dome for example]
Salute was designed by Baldassare Longhena
