Original artwork description

Bold unique abstract in muted shades of blue, violet, red and brown with touches of expressive mark making and collage. It has a lot of layers, texture and interest. It was done with acrylic and mixed media on heavy paper. It is signed on the front and back along with the title and date created. It is a heavily textured unusual and raw piece. This piece reminded me of an altar of some sort, thus the name.

I name my pieces by what occurred while painting the piece. What moved me, what struggles had to be overcome, my mood, my train of thought, what the piece reminded me of, sometimes a song that was on and the beat moved me or the lyrics influenced me in some way. Some pieces are named clearly with a bit of humor. I never intentionally start out a painting saying “I’m going to do this, or I’m going to do that”. All of my pieces morph into something that is totally surprising and unexpected.

Materials used:

acrylic, gesso, charcoal, marker, graphite, pencil, fabric, paper
