Painting of Roosevelt "Rosey" Grier, born on July 14, 1932, in Cuthbert, GA, is a multifaceted figure known for his impressive career as a professional football player, actor, & motivational speaker. He played as a defensive tackle in the NFL for the New York Giants & the Los Angeles Rams, where he was part of the legendary "Fearsome Foursome" defensive line. Grier was a two-time Pro Bowl selection & won an NFL championship with the Giants in 1956.
Grier gained fame as a bodyguard for Senator Robert F. Kennedy during the 1968 presidential campaign. He was present during Kennedy's assassination & played a crucial role in subduing the shooter, Sirhan Sirhan. After retiring from football, Grier transitioned into acting, appearing in various television shows & films. He is also an ordained minister & has been involved in community service, particularly focusing on helping inner-city youth .
