Roland Garros, the invisible set point. (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Sophie HORS

During these days, the French Open tennis tournament at Roland Garros is happening. I wanted to paint the color of the clay court. Rather than depicting the decisive shot or the celebrated champion,I chose to focus on what lies beyond the frame. The viewer is placed among the spectators while the essential action remains deliberately out of sight. I like very much painting scenes « out of frame »; only the legs of the player are visible; the unseen rally continues outside the canvas, inviting each viewer to complete the scene with its own emotion. It is not only a painting about tennis, but also a study of perspective: the unique moment when thousands of eyes follow a point that exists just beyond what we can see. I enjoyed very much painting the contrast between the warm clay-court and the whites and blues hats of the spectators.
