Original artwork description
An acrylic plein air painting sketch while I was on holiday in Dalbeattie, Scotland. A beautiful view to the estuary of Kippford harbour from Rough Island. I must admit I was struck by the vibrant yellow algae on the rocks in the foreground. Contrasting the green hills, makng a dynamic vista. Not only have I managed to capture the texture but the distance tonal values are superb. All on the thick waterford watercolour paper which gives a soft blended effect. I like using opaque paints in a watercolour way to start, graduating to thicker layers as I progress and this sketch is an excellent example of this. The extra cost for this piece is in relation to the very high quality of draughtmanship displayed.
