I started this little robin canvas about year ago and found him again at the back of the shelf. Really glad I finished painting and collaging him as they are one of my favourite British garden birds. I've layered the background and the robin with a range of greens, orange and reds.

I start the canvas with a rough pencil sketch and then I add the coloured paper before building up the layers with acrylic paint. The last thing I add are the embellishments of thread, beads, buttons and glitter to pick out or highlight certain areas.

Materials used:

Mixed media collage: acrylics, paper, thread, beads, glitter
