Original artwork description
An oil painting of the viaduct at Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat in central France as seen across the river with its reflection in the water. The composition brings together the stone arches, surrounding trees (and the changing of seasons), and soft light, focusing on the quiet character of this historic riverside landscape.
The viaduct itself was constructed in 1881, and the old bridge in the foreground was first mentioned in historical writings in 1262.
It is painted in the impressionist tradition on Italian made canvasboard (canvas attached to a wooden board) and finished with a satin varnish.
