Landscape of Auvergne, France.
This small canvas is part of a series of studies, quick conversations with the river.
By the river, hidden deep within the forest, the air itself seemed tinged with green. The light, filtered through the thick canopy, fell in patches of gold onto the water and the path. Here, the Sumène river becomes a winding mirror, reflecting thousands of shades of foliage, from bright yellow-green to the dark greens of the shadowy depths. The tree trunks in the foreground are not obstacles, but pillars. They invite you to step into this cathedral of greenery, to follow the path of the water as it fades into a mysterious half-light.
What I wanted to capture in this painting was this feeling of being completely enveloped, this silence rustling with life, and the dance of filtered light across the ever-changing surface of the river.
The white finish on the sides of the canvas allows it to be hung without a frame, should you wish.
Materials used:
This painting is painted with professional grade oil colors on a primed canvas. I prepare myself my canvases to create a texture specific to my painting needs and to insure them maximum longevity.
