Two long red dirt roads cut across the land in the shape of a quiet cross, drawing the eye toward the dark hills on the horizon and the fading warmth of a golden summer sunset. Scattered trees mark the roadsides, holding their ground in a dry, sun-scorched plain. The textured surface of the landscape holds a memory of water — soft ripples in the earth where rain once fell.
