This painting was made two winters ago in the New Forest at a place called Barrow Moor. I have tried to capture that frosty morning and the still cold atmosphere of this ancient wood. The Red Stag helps to compose the painting as he stands motionless staring at the viewer. The New Forest has five species of deer, but the Red Deer is the largest and most imposing. The frame is an antique dark gold.
