Original artwork description
Part of Alexander Levich’s Twenty Minutes of One Evening series, Red Cornfield explores the emotional power of colour within the landscape. Inspired by a fleeting impression gathered during a drive through the countryside, the painting transforms a familiar rural scene into a vibrant visual experience.
The composition is intentionally simple: a field beneath an open sky. Yet the relationship between the warm red-orange vegetation and the cool blue atmosphere creates remarkable energy. The landscape seems to glow from within, encouraging viewers to respond emotionally rather than analytically.
The work recalls traditions of Colourism and expressive landscape painting, where colour becomes the principal subject. Levich reduces the scene to its essential forms and allows chromatic relationships to carry much of the painting’s meaning.
At 120 x 200 cm, the work possesses an immersive presence that amplifies its impact. Seen in person, the landscape extends beyond the edges of the canvas, surrounding the viewer with colour and light.
