Original artwork description:

Bulls have always been known as the sign of strength, vitality and vigour. I grew up on a farm with a guard bull. Scary and fun memories of hide and seek. Sometimes, the things that you are scared of are also the things you are attracted to- the morbid attraction. That is the story with the Bull drawings.
I identify with the bull for its testosterone fuelled energy and the rawness. Charcoal is the perfect medium for bull drawings. The strokes are rough and full of energy, similar to the bull’s nature.
I aim to make a life sized bull drawing in charcoal. Of course, shipping it and framing it will be a logistical challenge.
A common misconception widely repeated in depictions of bull behaviour is that the colour red angers bulls, inciting them to charge. In fact, like most mammals, cattle are red/green colour blind. In bullfighting, it is the movement of the matador’s cape, and not the colour, which provokes a reaction in the bull.

Materials used:

Mixed media on paper
