Realms XXII - The Flowering (2024) Original Acrylic Painting by Saskia Huitema

This piece is part of my series 'Realms' in which a blue feather is recurring, beckoning the viewer to cross a threshold and take a peek into another world.
'The Flowering' is inspired by the miracle of growth, the unfurling of glossy leaves as well as the flowering of a young girl who is transitioning into womanhood.

The girl’s serene, almost ritualistic pose invites viewers to witness a sacred moment of awakening. The vibrant flower emerging beside her is a metaphor for inner blossoming, while surreal elements add a dreamlike, mystical energy. I aimed for this painting to bring a sense of calm, hope, and introspection, lighting up any space with its quiet, powerful presence.
