"Ray of Light"

The magnolias had finished blooming, so this part of the garden was almost deserted and quiet. I was standing with my back against a tree, in the light patterned shade, when, turning my head, I suddenly saw this scene. My attention was drawn to the diagonal of the branch, and how a ray of light snatched the flower's petals from the shadows.

Magnolias usually bloom on the ends of thin branches and in "clusters", but here one flower had blossomed on a branch that was many years old.
