This artwork captures a cinematic moment of solitude within the pulse of the city. Seen from behind, a woman in a vivid red dress walks beneath a pale umbrella through a rain-soaked New York avenue, surrounded by yellow taxis, reflective pavements and the softened verticals of the urban skyline.
The composition is built on contrast: the warmth of the figure against the cool blues, greys and silvery whites of the rainy city; the intimacy of a single human presence against the scale and movement of Manhattan. The red dress becomes the emotional centre of the painting, drawing the eye through the mist, traffic and architectural rhythm of the street.
Painted in oil on board, the work combines expressive brushwork with atmospheric depth.
