Rain in Venice. Caffè Florian (2023) Original Oil Painting by Natalia Matveeva

70 x 70 x 1.6cm (unframed) / 70 x 70cm (actual image size)

£1,272.62

This painting was inspired by my journey to Venice and captures one of my most memorable moments in the city.

The still life depicts the remains of a meal at the legendary Caffè Florian, overlooking St. Mark’s Square. In the background, the iconic Piazza San Marco fades into the soft atmosphere of a rainy summer day.

Rather than portraying the familiar sunlit Venice, I wanted to capture the city’s quieter, more intimate side. The gentle rain, muted light, and reflective mood reveal a different beauty—one that feels timeless, peaceful, and deeply authentic.

The painting is finished with a glossy protective varnish, and the sides of the canvas are painted in a dark color, allowing it to be displayed without framing if desired.

This artwork reflects my personal impression of Venice as I experienced and remember it—not as a postcard destination, but as a place filled with atmosphere, emotion, and quiet poetry.
