Original artwork description
Radiant Soul began with the eye.
I wanted it to feel calm and direct — almost as if the woman is looking at you before you have time to decide what you think about her. From there, the portrait slowly became less about realistic features and more about color, emotion and movement.
The large pink flower grows into the side of her face, blurring the line between portrait and abstraction. I intentionally allowed parts of the face to dissolve into turquoise, cobalt blue, magenta, orange, yellow and green, while keeping the eye and lips recognizable. I like that tension between something familiar and something that almost escapes into pure color.
I am especially interested in portraits where a woman does not simply look beautiful or decorative, but seems to have an inner presence of her own. Here, the flower is not an accessory. It almost becomes part of her — something alive, excessive and impossible to separate from the figure.
The painting is created with expressive acrylic brushstrokes and visible layers of color. Up close, the surface feels energetic and spontaneous; from a distance, the face comes together and becomes much more defined.
For me, this work is about the moment when identity becomes less fixed — when we stop trying to fit ourselves into one clear shape and allow ourselves to become something more instinctive, colorful and alive.
Despite its dreamlike quality, the portrait remains grounded by the woman’s gaze. She is still there beneath all the color.
