For many, growing up is a continuous process of disillusionment. As we mature through experience, we understand that we are conditioned to believe in certain narratives as the unequivocal truth but such conditioning only helps those in power to stay powerful. Whether it is about class, caste, religion, gender, sexuality, ability, economics or any socio-political issue, the powerful have deployed manufactured and tested rules and codes to control and manipulate collective consciousness in order to stay powerful, unchallenged. The organized machinery that feeds us these narratives hope to keep us drugged and helpless without realizing that we are actually pawns in the larger scheme of things. Many do lead their lives drowned in ignorance oblivious of this predicament or willingly participate in the process to find favors with the powerful but there are many who doubt, question, think and realize that they are caught in a web of propaganda and hope to break free from this vicious cycle. While there are others who keep weaving their own new webs to ensnare those who are vulnerable. The wise ones call this ‘Maya’!
